Upstage Lung Cancer is a charitable organization established to support the fight against lung cancer by raising awareness of lung cancer and supporting research for early detection and innovative treatments. Music and musical theater entertainment is our means to raise funds to accomplish our mission.

  • Worldwide, someone dies of lung cancer every 2 minutes.
  • It is the number one cancer killer, more than breast, ovarian, uterine and colon cancer COMBINED.
  • One in five women and one in twelve men diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked.
  • Early detection has the best chance for surviving, however the survival rate for 5 years for lung cancer is only 16% compared with 99% for prostate and 89% for breast cancer.

  • Performed third annual cabaret, "An Evening with Lenny" honoring the life and music of Leonard Bernstein, who died of lung cancer;
  • Upstage Lung Cancer

  • Presented 2011 Upstage Lung Cancer Fan Award to Deborah Morosini, MD, sister of the late Dana Reeve (wife of the late Christopher Reeve) for her work as a lung cancer activist;
  • Awarded 2011-2012 Upstage Lung Cancer Grant, in conjunction with Lungevity Foundation, to stellar researcher Rebecca Heist, MD, for her work on tumor genetics;
  • Raised funds at our first annual summer event "Paddlepalooza" where we enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of paddling and picnicing on the Charles River with music along the way.

Research Grant Awarded

Rebecca Heist

Upstage Lung Cancer is proud to announce its first research grant will be given to Dr. Rebecca Heist of Mass General Cancer Center. This award is made in conjunction with LUNGevity Foundation. Dr. Heist's innovative research is identifying new tumor genetic changes in lung cancer, an important step for developing clinical trials of novel agents in lung cancer treatment. Results will help to extend lives of lung cancer patients and to create new means of early detection. Supporting Dr. Heist’s work is consistent with our mission.
